![]() Games will keep coming to PCVR natively quite often IMO (since the userbase is much larger than just 1%) and the technology used to create VR games is getting more and more standardised, making it easier to support multiple platforms. And then there's also Proton letting you play non-native (Windows) games also. Think of it like this: regular (non-VR games) keep coming to Linux even tho the userbase only recently reached 1% on Steam. ![]() I also don't see a reason to worry that games will stop coming to PCVR, it's still quite a sizeable platform. I can see Valve eventually giving PCVR the "Deck" treatment (a standalone unit, like the Quest) but I don't see a reason to try to compete with Facebook. only that it will likely always be a minority. However, on the flip side, it's not dead either, far from it, and it will continue to live just fine. IMO PCVR simply cannot compete with the giant that Facebook is. Valve is waaaay behind in this regard and it would take a very long time for them to catch up with Facebook, which already has a well established platform, for which devs are already used to. Not only is it much more expensive to play VR if you also need a PC for it, but it's also much more inconvenient and it's a complicated setup (it's not complicated to us PC/PCVR gamers, but for most people, it is). This is a huge advantage as people absolutely want that. the Quests are standalone units, not requiring a PC. They're playing the long game and they won't give up easily if at all, the prize is simply too big. Facebook is intent on building a monopoly, to make sure that they can keep harvesting user data from VR users well into the future (which means a hell of a lot of users, in the long term). It would be a "war of attrition" that Valve could simply not win. ![]() If they tried, Facebook would just be even more aggressive with their pricing. Sure Valve is big, and they have a lot of money, but they are an ant compared to how much Facebook has. ![]() They cover their losses by selling user data from not just Quest users, but all Facebook users. Valve would go bankrupt if they tried to compete with Facebook on price.įacebook sells their headsets at a (likely big) loss. ![]()
